Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan takes his time to monitor the street vendors (PKL) arrangement in HI Roundabout area, Central Jakarta while cycling during Car Free Day, on Sunday (11/3) morning.
It is conducted to create a sense of comfort for citizens in doing exercise and relaxing with friends and family.
Locals Comfortable Doing Activities in Car Free Day Along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin"In 2001, the Car Free Day location was used as one of the activities to reduce air emissions, intensify jogging and cycling. So what we do now is arrangement, instead of controlling," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.
He continued the entire main body of the main highway around the HI Roundabout is categorized as red zones, which must be free of any activity except walking, running, exercising or cycling. There are also yellow and green zones that allow PKL to hold economic activities with the community during the Car Free Day.
"By so those who come here is to exercise, to do activities with friends and families. Surely they want comfort where clean, neat and beautiful becomes something important. No more garbage along the road. So this is not only the role of the government but also all circles," he explained.
This arrangement also provides comfort for cyclists as a special lane is in the mid of the highway (next to the Transjakarta lane). Meanwhile, other people who walk or run can take advantage of sidewalks that are empty of PKL.
"I really appreciate and thanks to them (PKL) who support us. Principally everything will feel comfortable as long as all can be arranged properly. So you can enjoy the benefits together," he continued.
He also gives appreciation to the ranks of Jakarta Provincial Government, which have started working since midnight and before dawn to socialize the PKL arrangement in Car Free Day area.
"So we do well, politely, by telling the purpose that everyone feels the benefits. Alhamdulillah all goes well," he closed.
